Ten deaths in three days on British roads

Britain has seen a series of fatal car crashes in just three days.

On Friday, two men in their 20s died after they hit a lamp-post in West Yorkshire.

Police told the BBC that the car came off on a bend in Featherstone and was travelling from Wakefield. Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Saturday saw three people killed on the M1 after a coach collided with their stationary car on the hard shoulder in Bedfordshire.

Three men in the car were pronounced dead at the scene and a fourth was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the coach was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but was released on bail.

A crash on the M40 on Saturday morning involved around 40 vehicles and saw one man die.

Thames Valley Police said another person was "critically ill" and six people were seriously injured, while 50 had minor injuries.

Chief Inspector Henry Parsons, of Thames Valley Police, told the BBC: "The cause of this collision is under investigation, however, we believe that fog played a major part.

"This has been an extraordinarily large collision, we have not had a collision on this scale for many years in Thames Valley and one man has sadly lost his life."

On Saturday night, two women were killed on the A11 in Norfolk when three cars collided at Besthorpe. A 46-year-old died at the scene and a 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital but died shortly after, ITV News reports. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

The Huffington Post reports that on Sunday, two people died and six others were injured in a collision involving a minibus and a lorry.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said both victims killed in the accident near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews, including three ambulances, were called to the crash on the A511 at Tutbury shortly before 7am.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, AA president Edmund King said: "These multiple deaths have brought a tragic, sad and devastating start to the weekend and half term holidays on the roads.

"They are a timely reminder that even though motorways are our safest roads, when there are incidents, they can have fatal consequences."
