THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED

We've teamed up with Cumbria's new attraction The Lakes Distillery to offer one lucky AOL Travel reader the chance to win a whisky experience for two, including a tour, dinner and an overnight stay in a Lake District hotel.

Nestled under the shadows of Skiddaw (pictured) in the beautiful Lake District, The Lakes Distillery is set in a former Victorian model farm in an area of unimaginable beauty next to Bassenthwaite Lake and the River Derwent.

The prize includes a whisky experience for two people, with a tour of the brand new distillery, a meal for two in the bistro and an overnight stay in the nearby four-star The Trout Hotel.

The winner will be among the first visitors to the distillery, which officially opened in December, revealing a Visitor Centre, artisan bar and restaurant The Bistro at the Distillery, as well as a shop selling the distillery's spirits and local products.

The state-of-the-art Visitor Centre takes guests on an atmospheric tour of how the Lakes Malt, Lakes Gin and Lakes Vodka are made, as well as including a visit to the distillery's warehouse where the whisky matures. Visitors go on a high definition cinematic journey following the water used within the spirits from the River Derwent as it flows down from Sprinkling Tarn through Keswick into Bassenthwaite Lake and on to the Irish Sea. It also tells the story of Cumbria's most notorious distiller and smuggler Lanty Sleek, who plays a key role in the unique tour.

Tours conclude in the Tasting Room where you can raise a glass and be taken on a concluding journey of the palate.

The Bistro at the Distillery offers delicious food served in relaxed and chic surroundings. Overseen by nationally renowned chef and restaurateur Terry Laybourne, the casual bar and bistro is a vibrant eatery seating a total of 130 guests both inside and out. The bistro houses the distillery's Board Room, a stylish private dining area for 30 people where the casks of maturing whisky can be viewed.

Following your visit to The Lakes Distillery, you will follow the River Derwent to the quaint market town of Cockermouth where you can relax at the four-star The Trout hotel.

Originally built in the 17th century as a private residence, the Trout's historic building first opened as a hotel in 1934. Since then, the original structure has been extended and the old stables tastefully converted while the building's unique character has been retained. The original stone walls, exposed beams and reconditioned marble fireplaces remind guests of its heritage. The beautifully restored cornicing and ceiling roses, period stained glass windows and a carefully preserved oak staircase add a touch of elegance.
