Switzerland's top winter sports haven St Moritz is one of the ritziest, chicest and uber-trendy ski resorts in Europe, attracting well-heeled non-skiers and serious powder hounds alike.

The small ski town is flanked by upscale boutiques, boasts history at every turn (did you know that winter tourism was actually born here in 1864?) and has a whole host of five-star hotels complete with Michelin-starred restaurants.

But there's more to this glamorous Swiss resort than meets the eye.

While it may play host to the international jet set, St Moritz isn't all about being seen on the slopes or in the spa. This beautiful winter destination was made for piste bashing and is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders and it's also home to superb hiking trails, an array of world-class sporting events and unique ways to get active in the snow, making it a hotspot for nature lovers and adventurers too.

Oh and the scenery is pretty incredible too: whatever you're doing, you'll want to stop to admire the views along the way.

One of the best things about the resort is that there is plenty to do for those who don't ski or when you are in need of a day off the slopes. St Moritz has its quirks: its own leaning tower, unusual architecture in the form of the bubble-like Chesa Futura house designed by architect Norman Foster and the famous Cresta Run which you won't find anywhere else in the world.

If you're looking to try some truly unique activities, ski yoga, ice climbing and lunch at the 'top of the world' are just a few things to add to your must-do list.

With stylish restaurants, bars and nightclubs, you won't want to miss experiencing the après ski scene in St Moritz either. Posthaus, Sunny Bar at the Kulm Hotel and Vivai are three of the best places to be seen after dark.
