Rhino kicked in head by giraffe after trying to play

One playful little rhino learned the hard way to know when enough is enough.

The cute baby kept trying to play with a giraffe in their enclosure, and got a couple of warnings from the animal that it was't in the mood for a play.

But when he tried to nudge the giraffe for a third time, the animal delivers a swift kick to the baby rhino that then runs away with its tail between its legs.

According to the Metro, Olive the rhino and Gerald the giraffe are two young orphans who are normally the best of friends.

Both live at the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in South Africa after being rescued, and generally play nicely together.

But, obviously, even best friends fall out from time to time.

One You Tube wrote: "Looks like it hit the left side of his face, ow ."

But another tried to reassure everyone, writing: "Looks like he got the rhino on the horn. I wouldn't imagine it hurt much, probably the noise and sudden force turning his head a bit that scared him off more than any actual pain."

The Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre at Moholoholo contributes to the conservation of endangered species and the rehabilitation of injured and poisoned wildlife. It also facilitates a number of successful breeding programmes.

According to its website, "the centre is a home for many of South Africa's abandoned, injured and poisoned wildlife and is a highly regarded contributor to wildlife education in our country.

"Situated in the shadow of the majestic 'Mariepskop' our unique Rehabilitation Centre is home to many animals and birds. Some of them are the rescued lions from an Egyptian circus; Queen the crowned eagle, Chui the leopard, Jolly & Juba the cheetah ambassadors and many more."

Its aim is for rehabilitated birds and animals to be returned to the wild, and those who are not so fortunate due to the nature and extent of their problems are used for educational talks to the many people who visit the centre each year both from across South Africa and abroad.

Interaction between the animals and visitors to Moholoholo is permitted under controlled conditions.

Tourists can visit the centre for tours from Monday to Saturday, and anyone can make a donation here.
