Hurricane Cristobal to bring warm weather to UK

The UK could see a return of warmer weather next week - thanks to Hurricane Cristobal.

After one of the the worst Bank Holidays weather-wise on record, temperatures could next week reach a balmy mid-20s as the effects of the hurricane bring an area of high pressure to Britain.

In the wake of the remnants of Hurricane Bertha, the UK ended up with a cool spell of weather from the north in the UK last week - but it looks like Hurricane Cristobal will actually see a return to warmth.

Cristobal is currently moving north away from the Bahamas and looks like it will skirt around Bermuda in the middle of this week before become extra tropical and caught in the jet stream.

However, the most likely track will be towards Iceland and then past the north of Scotland to Norway early next week. This is a very different track to Bertha and looks like it will enhance ridging and higher pressure over the UK next week with temperatures above normal and a dry spell of weather.

Leon Brown, meteorologist at The Weather Channel UK, told Aol Travel: "Confidence is growing that next week, and the first week or so of September, will become dry and settled across the UK under a large area of high pressure.

"The remnants of Hurricane Cristobal will track to the north of the UK across Iceland and North Scandinavia as a deep depression, and as a consequence induce ridging and high pressure over the UK.

"Temperatures next week will be in the low to mid 20s in the afternoons, but cool at night with a risk of some fog, which may linger in the morning."

Leon added that it will brighten up for the weekend, saying: "This weekend will be mainly fine in southern Britain. Showers on Saturday in the north and then rain reaching the north west later on Sunday - depending on the track and speed of the remains of Cristobal.

Then, he said: "Next week will be windy in the north at first with showers then becoming dry, fine and a lot warmer from the middle of next week with plenty of sunshine in the south. Temperatures back up to the mid 20s Celsius."
