A girl had to be rescued by a hero jet skier after falling asleep on her boogie board - and drifting half a mile out to sea.

Jemima Chambers, 4, was playing in the shallows during a family holiday in Rozel Bay, Jersey, with her cousins when she began to drift out.

Her horrified mum, Rebecca, 36, raised the alarm with a jet skier nearby, jumped on the back of his vehicle and sped off around the headland.

Jemima's aunt, Rachel Le Marquand, told the Metro: "Luckily, there was a man on a jet ski nearby and my sister quickly ran over and told him what had happened.

"He didn't shout at us for being bad parents he jumped on his jet ski with my sister and zoomed off.

"I don't think the kids really realised quite how serious the situation was.

"They were in fits of giggles and thought it was marvellous that their mummy was on a jet ski."

Rebecca is now hoping the mystery jet skier, who calmly rode off after dropping them all back to shore, will come forward.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Mrs Chambers added: "We are so grateful for what he did. It was genuinely life saving.

"The children decided they wanted to write a letter of thanks to the mystery jet skier but we decided to write a poem instead.

"It's called 'A Sonnet of Thanks to the Hero of the day at Rozel Bay'."
