Singapore Airlines plane skids off runway upon landing in Myanmar
A Singapore Airlines plane veered off the runway after touching down in heavy rain at Myanmar's Yangon International Airport on Thursday.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the airline said in a statement that the Airbus A330 "encountered heavy rain and veered slightly off the runway on landing".
The statement added that aircraft was towed to the gate and passengers disembarked normally.
The plane was carrying 265 passengers and crew at the time of the incident.
The Irrawaddy reports that President's Office spokesperson Ye Htut said on his Facebook page that around 200 passengers due to fly on the same plane to Singapore were transferred to a replacement flight.
The Department of Civil Aviation are investigating the incident.
Back in February, five people were killed after a passenger plane carrying football fans skidded off the runway and burst into flames at Donetsk's Serhiy Prokofiev International Airport in the Ukraine.
The Antonov AN-24 plane is reported to have been carrying more than 49 people and was an internal charter flight from the Black Sea tourist resort of Odessa.
And, in June 2013, a Monarch passenger plane with 137 people on board careered off a runway at Birmingham Airport because it was travelling at twice the recommended speed.
