It's no secret that holiday firms are guilty of taking advantage of parents by pushing up the price of breaks during the school holidays. For those that are struggling to find a holiday in their price range, camping offers an affordable alternative, and Europe is home to many family-friendly sites that can really cut the cost of your break. We check out five of the best.

Domaine des Alicourts, France
Set in the beautiful Loire area of France, Domaine des Alicourts has something for everyone. The lake offers fishing, swimming, canoeing and pedalos, and there is an aquapark, playground, go-karts, football pitch, archery and arcades for the kids. Meanwhile mum and dad can leave the little ones to enjoy themselves and get a little R&R at the spa complex. As well as camping pitches starting from 20 euros per night, there are chalets, cottages, villas and even treehouses if you prefer a little more luxury.
Camp Kazela Medulin, Croatia
Situated right by the sea Camp Kazela Medulin is the ideal spot for beach lovers. There are kids activities along with a water park and 15 mini swimming pools, not to mention a whole host of sports including water skiing, scuba diving, volleyball, tennis and football for those that like to be on the go. The facilities are excellent too, with free wi-fi spots, toilets, hot, cold and beach showers, a supermarket and several restaurants and bars. Prices for adults range from 4.60 euros per night with kids aged four an upwards starting from 2.60. Flights to nearby Pula are available from around £130 per person.
Camping Manor Farm, Switzerland
This stunning site on the shores of Lake Thun boasts views of the Eiger, fishing, windsurfing, canoeing and swimming or simply sunbathing at the private lakeside beach lake, and trampolining, table tennis and mini golf is also available. The resort is equipped with a mini market, bars, restaurants, washing machines and hot showers, as well as a children's playground, paddling pool and games room. Seven nights staying in a Maxi Tent in July costs £397.80.
Camping Duinrell, Holland
A big hit with families from all over Europe, Camping Duinrell's popularity is largely thanks to its excellent facilities and activities. As well as a theme park and water park, which includes waterslides, wave machines and whirlpools, there is plenty to entertain younger children, including crazy gold, an indoor playground, bumper boats and a carousel. Diving lessons, pedalos and rowing are also available, and there are children's clubs and evening entertainment. Accommodation is by way of a two bedroom or three bedroom mobile home with decking area, and as such, it's one of the pricier options, with a seven night stay for four in July costing from £1118.

Camping Marjal, Spain
Ideal for sunseeking families, Camping Marjal on Spain's Costa Blanca is easily accessible, being just 25 minutes from Alicante airport, and comes with all camping mod cons. A fully equipped gym and fitness/spa area is available for the grownups, along with a range of sports, while children can enjoy the 5,000 metre square lagoon swimming pool or heated indoor pool. The resort boasts bars, restaurants, a shop, games room, TV room and Internet access, and is just a short hop from Guardamar, with its 12km white sandy beach. Accommodation is in mobile homes, each with decking and aircon, and prices start from £42 per night.
