Getting a deposit back from a landlord can often be a fraught exchange but tenancy deposit schemes (TDS) ensure tenants are treated fairly and receive their money back when they leave a property.

The tenancy deposit scheme (TDS) was set up in 2007 to ensure that tenants' deposits, which are often substantial sums of money, are safe. Tenants who signed a contract after 6 April 2007 should have their deposit protected by a scheme.
