Cruise ship 'stretched' to make more room for passengers: Video

Updated

Question: how do fit more passengers on a cruise ship?

Answer: Cut it in half and add a bit in them middle, of course.

This timelapse cruise ship video recorded in Hamburg, Germany, shows just how it's done.

The video shows how the Norwegian Crown is split in two by engineers. A 99-foot extra section is then added in, to accommodate extra cabins and more entertainment areas.

The paintwork is completely stripped and re-done, with the ship's new name then unveiled – the Balmoral.

The extra section means the 1988-built boat can now carry around 1,400 passengers – an increase of a third.
