Japanese airline receives complaints over 'racist' TV ad

Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has changed its TV advert after customers accused it of racist stereotyping.

The commercial shows two Japanese men discussing how they can boost the image of the airline.

One says: "Let's change the image of Japanese people."

The other replies, "Sure," while wearing a blonde wig and a long rubber nose.

In Japan, white westerners are believed to have big noses, blue eyes and blonde hair - characteristics that are desirable among Japanese.

AFP reports that after receiving complaints, the airline apologised and said a different version of the advert would be released soon.
