Man's death in Midlands hotel sparks evacuation

A hotel has been evacuated after a man was found dead in his room. Source: PA.

Emergency services were called to the Ibis hotel in Coventry just after midday after the man was found collapsed, according to West Midlands Police.

A force spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to a hotel on Mill Lane in Cheylesmore, Coventry, just after noon today after a man was found collapsed inside one of the rooms.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The room has been secured and the hotel has been evacuated as a precaution as specialist colleagues from partner emergency services are at the scene to ensure the safety of others.

"The death is being treated as unexplained at this time but early indications are that the death is not suspicious.

"The man is yet to be formally identified and his family are being informed."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said it had sent an ambulance, a paramedic and its Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) to the Ibis Hotel after it was called at about 12.20pm.

He said: "We can confirm we received a call to the Ibis hotel in Mill Lane to an incident.

"Police are now investigating."

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed its crews were at the scene.
