Stephen Fry beats David Beckham as ideal celebrity holiday companion

Stephen Fry has been named the nation's dream celebrity holiday companion, according to a new Radio Times poll.

The writer and presenter beat off competition from David Beckham (who came a paltry second), Joanna Lumley and Kelly Brook in the survey.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Jade Bremner, Radio Times travel editor, said: "I'm not surprised at all. Stephen Fry is a born traveller and would charm the pants off anyone you'd meet on your trip.

"The last thing you want when you're travelling is to be stuck with someone who can't laugh when things, often inevitably, go wrong."

The top celebrity holiday companions are:

1. Stephen Fry 31.79 per cent

2. David Beckham 13.8 per cent

3. Michael Palin 10.25 per cent

4. Alan Carr 7.17 per cent

5. Dawn French 6.9 per cent

6. Joanna Lumley 6.6 per cent

7. Kelly Brook 6.1 per cent

8. Keith Lemon 5.89 per cent

9. David Attenborough 5.6 per cent
