A 22-year-old British holidaymaker has gone missing in Vancouver and police say he has not been seen or heard from for over a week.

Thomas Billings was supposed to be going to America at the end of November and returning to Britain on 7 December.

He went on a hiking trip in Vancouver and his father Martin Billings reported him missing when he failed to return.

Speaking to Global News, Martin said: "The reason was, he was couchsurfing, he had left some gear at their house, and he had gone off hiking for a few days, and hasn't turned up. They contacted Vancouver Police, who contacted us, and he has been reported missing."

The Vancouver Sun reports that police are seeking help from the public and have said that Thomas was last seen in the 1400-block of East Broadway at about 9am on 25 November.

They added that he is a seasoned traveller and avid hiker. He had talked about wanting to hike in the Lower Mainland, including the North Shore Mountains.
