Woman left clinging for life as railroad bridge rises - with her on it

A woman was left terrified on Saturday after a railroad bridge she was walking on starting rising - with her still on it.

The woman, who had just taken part in a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk, had reportedly gone on to the bridge to take pictures.

But she was left clinging on for dear life after it rose up while she was still on it.

A crowd of people gathered below, taking pictures and sharing them on sites like Twitter,

One user, mszgabbii, posted:


She added: "The bridge was going up, but instead of running off she lay down."

Another witness, Phillip Glazebrook, a Fort Lauderdale man who works in a booth nearby, told the Sun Sentinel: "She was just stuck in this Jesus Christ position. The woman was frozen and terrified.

"I'm sure she must have been in absolute shock to be stuck in that position."

But the 55-year-old was very lucky, as Fort Lauderdale firefighters arrived in time to save her, and used a 24ft ladder to get to her.

According to the Daily Mail, there are warning signs at the bridge making it clear it is not for pedestrians. It is not known why she didn't use the nearby Andrews Avenue pedestrian crossing.

The woman did not need medical attention after the incident.
