Fulham FC chairman says removal of Michael Jackson statue "right thing to do"

Fulham FC owner Shahid Khan says that removing the Michael Jackson statue installed by former chairman Mohamed Al Fayed is the "right thing to do".

Al Fayed originally planned to place the statue outside Harrods but later switched the site to the football club he owned.

He famously told fans to "go to hell" if they did not like it.

According to Sky News, fans have complained about the unusual attraction, which was erected in 2011, as it has nothing to with football and makes the stadium's Craven Cottage side look silly.

In a statement on the football club's website, Khan said: "Craven Cottage means the world to generations of Fulham supporters, and I have heard from many of them over the past two months.

"Our supporters' views on the statue have been made clear. I respect Mr Al Fayed and know he had good intentions in paying an individual tribute. However, the removal of the statue is the right thing for Fulham Football Club."

Michael Jackson and Mohamed Al Fayed are said to have been friends and the singer once attended a match at the stadium.
