British woman falls 100ft to her death in Swiss Alps

A 76-year-old British tourist has fallen 100ft to her death while hiking in the Swiss Alps.

The woman had been hiking with a friend when she lost her footing on a narrow path and tumbled into a riverbed near the town of Mischabel.

An air ambulance from the nearby resort of Saas-Fe was sent to the scene, but the woman was dead upon their arrival.

A mountain rescue spokesman told the Daily Mail: "The woman was a British woman aged 76. She slipped on a narrow pathway and fell into the riverbed below.

"Her friend believed she had survived the fall but we found her dead at the scene."

Back in August 2010, a 21-year-old British woman was killed in Saas-Fe when she smashed into a rock face during a zip wire challenge, reports the Daily Telegraph.

And the news comes just days after a British woman died falling 330ft while hiking alone in the French Alps.

Felicity Ward, 54, was found close to a hostel near Desert, in the Valjouffrey valley in the Isere region of eastern France, reports AFP.

According to The Sun, she tumbled off a steep path leading up to the Col De Vaurze, and fell around 330ft.
