Brazilian police officers proved they'll do pretty much anything to capture a criminal - even ram a plane with their car.

A video posted online on Thursday appears to show Brazilian federal police officers performing the dangerous move to stop an illegal drug-smuggling plane taking off from Santa Vitória.

According to a Huffington Post translation, the officer in the speeding car says: "Go, go, go! Let me get around him and I'll close in on the plane."

Moments later, gunfire is heard before the car hits the plane's wings, destroying part of the aircraft.

Five people were arrested and 230kg of cocaine paste was recovered in the raid.

In 2011, a video emerged showing Brazilian police rammed a plane filled with stolen electronics in Ribeirao Preto.
