Over 900 pigs found floating in Shanghai river in China
An inquiry has been launched after more than 900 dead pigs were found floating in a river near Shanghai, China, that serves as a water source for residents.
According to the BBC, officials say there was no evidence the animals were dumped in the Huangpu River, or that they died of any animal epidemic.
The Scotsman reports that a statement posted on the city's Agriculture Committee's website said the city and Songjiang district governments started retrieving the pigs on Friday night.
By late Saturday afternoon they had recovered and disposed of more than 900.
According to China Daily, the city's water supplies bureau said the water quality had not been affected, but authorities have upped quality examination at the water intakes, as well as the whole water disinfection process.
