A boy is believed to have been killed by a pack of wolves or wild dogs in a remote part of eastern Siberia, according to Russian police.

His body was found by his mother on Thursday near Lake Yessey in the Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Evenkia district.

The boy was on his way home from visiting his brother, but never made it back.

Tracks that appeared to be from wild dogs or wolves were found around his body, police spokeswoman Tatyana Shkampletova said.

According to The Sun, she said: "There were multiple bites all over his body. It was a violent end."

Residents of the area have been attacked in the past by stray dogs, according to Yessey village head Gennady Maimaga.

She told upi.com: "They actively breed in the forest and enter the village's territory. There were previous cases when they had attacked people."
