A motorist who was being told by doctors that his dad was dying of cancer has been fined for parking for just one minute too long in the hospital car park.

Kevin Hodges came back to his car after a doctor had pulled him to one side for a personal chat one minute after his period of grace ran out, but was just in time to see the £60 parking fine slapped on his windscreen at the University Hospital of North Durham, in County Durham. His dad died just one week later.
