United Airlines flight makes emergency landing after pilots report smoke in cockpit

A United Airlines flight from London to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Shannon, Ireland after the pilots reported smoke in the cockpit.

According to WTVC, Shannon Airport said that all 182 passengers and 10 crew members were unhurt on the Friday flight.

All remained on the Boeing 777 as the aircraft was inspected by engineers to determine whether it could continue its journey.

The Daily Telegraph reports that passengers were sending text messages from the plane saying the pilots reported smoke in the cockpit and had dumped fuel in the Atlantic before turning back to Ireland.

According to the newspaper, Shannon Airport, the westernmost major airport in Europe, experiences around 2 emergency diversions of trans-Atlantic flights each month.
