Landslip shuts Monmouth Beach in Dorset

A beach in Dorset has been closed following a landslip on its access road.

Police are warning the public not to cross their barricade as there is a "considerable risk" of more landslips occurring.

Chalet owners have been told to stay away from their properties on Monmouth Beach, which is just west of Lyme Regis, and the road was closed "indefinitely", according to the BBC.

The beach is just 12 miles from Burton Bradstock, where a 22-year-old woman died in a landslip last July.

Virgil Turner, fire station manager at Lyme Regis, warned of the danger, telling the BBC: "Every day there's something moving. Stay away from the cliff tops and bottoms - it's a dangerous place when we've got these weather conditions."

Members of the public have been told not to cross the police tape on the closed road.

A spokesman told the Dorset Echo: "No one has been injured in this incident but Dorset Police advise that there is a risk to the beach chalets and urge owners not to try and access their properties under any circumstances.

"Members of the public must not cross police tape that is closing the road as there is a considerable risk of a further landslip."

Meanwhile, flood alerts have been issued for many parts of the UK, including the south west, with hurrricane force winds and torrential rain set to hit in the next couple of days.
