A British tourist has been found dead in his hotel room in Thailand after days of binge drinking following an argument with his girlfriend.

Carsten James Denbigh, 47, was found kneeling on the floor with his body resting on the bed in a hotel room in Wang Krachae on 18 December, according to the Bangkok Post.

Pol Sub Lt Pawat Kaewkem, from Trat Tourist Police, said a pool of vomit mixed with blood was on the floor, and he appeared to have been dead for up to seven hours.

There were no injuries found on his body.

Mr Kaewkem said an investigation found Mr Denbigh and his British girlfriend visited Trat's Koh Mak about a week ago.

His girlfriend stayed with him on the island for two nights, before returning to the UK after they had a huge row.

Denbigh went on to consume a high volume of alcohol over the next few days. He fell ill and started vomiting blood, before being sent for treatment at Trat Hospital, from where he was discharged on Monday 17 December.

Pol Sub Lt Pawat said police from Muang Trat police station took Denbigh to stay at a city hotel because he had no money to pay for transportation.

According to the Daily Mail, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office could not immediately comment.
