A Thai flight attendant was sacked after she threatened to throw coffee at a business class passenger during a flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong, airline Cathay Pacific said.

Time.com reports that the passenger in seat 15D on 25 November was the daughter of Thailand's most divisive political figure, exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The flight attendant, who was identified on news site Asia Sentinel as Honey Lochanachai, wrote on her Facebook page: 'I immediately told my flight manager that I could not work knowing that the daughter of my enemy was on board.

'I also called my personal advisor asking if it would be all right to throw coffee at [her], but was told that this could breach Hong Kong's law.'

The Facebook post, which is no longer public, spread fast and reached the front pages of newspapers across Southeast Asia.

The passenger involved in the incident took to Instagram and wrote: 'I've never thought somebody would have such an idea.'

Cathay Pacific apologised as Thaksin supporters protested outside the airline's Bangkok office.

Thaksin was ousted in 2006 and lives in exile. The Thai billionaire was found guilty of corruption in a case of government land sold to his then-wife's mother in 2008 and sentenced to two years in prison.
