A drunk man wearing only his underwear sparked a coastguard search after clothes and boots were found on Weymouth beach in Dorset.

Lifeguards searched the beach for over an hour, and two lifeboats were launched after Portland Coastguard feared the man had gone into the sea.

Eventually, Dorset Police found the man "a little worse for wear" after he had walked back to his accommodation in just his underwear.

A coastguard spokesman told the BBC: "When he was found he was a bit worse for wear.

"He turned up back safe at the house where he was staying and was slowly sobering up."

Members of public raised the alarm after finding his clothes discarded on the beach.
