A club that is featured in hit TV show Benidorm has been voted the best theatre-style nightclub in Europe.

Spain's Benidorm Palace is owned in the series by widow Madge Harvey, and the real-life honour has seen it beat famous hotspots like the Moulin Rouge in Paris.

The theatre can seat 1,600 people, and has hosted big names like Julio Iglesias, Sacha Distel and Danny La Rue.

The owner Cristina Climent, from Cheshire, told The Sun: "This has come right out of the blue, we're over the moon.

"We had no idea we were being considered for this award and are amazed to be recognised."

Cristina runs the venue, which has been open for 35 years, with her husband Vincente, son David, and daughter Joanne.
