'False economy' of cutting road repair budgets slammed

Updated

Councils have been told by the Department for Transport (DfT) to slash their road repair budgets by £223m in the coming financial year - around 40 percent of the total.

But a new report by the Public Accounts Committee has said that this will "prove counterproductive, costing more in the long term as a result of increased vehicle damage and the higher cost of repairing the more severe road damage."
