Finding a cheap flight isn't quite as easy as it sounds these days. Recent taxation increases, APD hikes and the downsizing of many airlines has meant prices on average are significantly higher now than they were this time last year.

The good news is that there are still some chinks of light for bargain hunters. A study by flight comparison site Fly.com has revealed that booking early and choosing your destination wisely means you can still bag some jolly good bargains.

Its list of the best and worst destinations to fly to from the UK compares the prices of return flight fares in January 2012 to those this time last year. More than a million searches were compared - and the results threw up some big surprises...
