Video of the day: Tigers go crazy for recycled Christmas trees

Updated

London Zoo has come up with a novel way of recycling its Christmas trees: making them into toys for tigers.

The trees have proved the perfect "enrichment" toys for the zoo's pair of Sumatran tigers, Lumpur and Reika. Different scents are used as part of the animals' regular play time, to stimulate their natural curiosity - so the fragrant firs were a real treat for the pair.

Big cat keeper Paul Kybett said: "Lumpur, our male Sumatran tiger, is known to be playful and will immediately investigate something new in his environment. The size, shape and smells on the tree attract him, as it is his natural instinct to follow his nose. Lumpur in particular cannot leave the Christmas tree alone!"
