The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will join Prince Charles and Camilla, as well as Carol and Michael Middleton, for a two-day family New Year celebration at Balmoral in Scotland.

The royal couple will catch a flight to the Queen's favourite retreat tomorrow, in time for a Hogmanay in the Highlands, which traditionally includes dinner in front of open peat fires and a countdown to the New Year with Champagne and malt whiskies, according to the Mirror.

According to Easyjet, record numbers of tourists will head to Scotland for Hogmanay celebrations this year, with 15,000 people flying into Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow on Easyjet flights this week.

A trip to Balmoral will round off Kate's first traditional royal Christmas, which saw her joining the family for Christmas Day services at Sandringham.
