Banks' downgrade threatens Footsie

The impact of a downgrade of leading banks by ratings agency Standard & Poor's has threatened to end London's three-day winning streak.

Traders said the move by S&P, which reduced its ratings on 15 global banks by one notch, overshadowed the progress that had been made in Brussels on leveraging the eurozone bailout fund.
