A survivor form the plane that crashed into the Hudson River in New York has become a pilot to overcome a fear of flying caused by the famous incident three years ago.

Businessman Clay Presley was among 155 survivors who were saved by the skills of pilot Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger and co-pilot Jeff Stiles, after a flock of geese knocked out both engines.

The two men miraculously managed to land the plane on the Hudson River, without any fatalities.

After the crash, 57-year-old businessman Clay became friends with Jeff, and was inspired to get a pilot's licence.

According to The Sun, he said: 'I realised if I knew what had occurred in the cockpit that day, I could take that as my inspiration to learn to fly myself,' adding: 'The most difficult thing has always been the landing - the best part of any flight is landing safely on the ground!'
