Taxpayer sold short - the top five

UK taxpayers have been shortchanged again from the Virgin-Northern Rock purchase - by a good £400m at least, it's estimated. The actual sale price for this deal could rise by another £280m if Virgin floats its new business for a profit. But that's a way off, and the UK taxpayer remains still liable for Northern Rock's 'bad' arm.
