Councils give UK roads the cold shoulder and cut gritting budget

Updated

Councils around the country are gearing up to slash road gritting and snow ploughing in order to save money, according to reports from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

With some of the harshest winters on record over the past few years, the IAM claim that official Government estimates highlight a decrease in available funds for road grit, with 33 councils cutting budgets by 10% or more and potentially putting lives at risk on UK roads over the snowy season.
