Blackpool Tower reopens with glass floors after multi-million pound revamp

Blackpool Tower has reopened to the public after a 10-month multi-million pound revamp.

But you'll need a head for heights to enjoy the new Tower Eye feature - a 4.15 tonne glass floor and floor-to-ceiling observation platform, that runs along the entire side of the top tower.

The Tower Eye also features a 4D cinema experience, including a look back in history at Mayor John Bickerstaffe's construction of the tower, which was inspired by the Eiffel Tower, brought to life with the 4D 'sensory effects' like sea spray and beach donkey aromas.

There's also a brand new Blackpool Tower Dungeon offering a walk through the 'North West's most horrible history'.

But, despite new developments, many original features of the 118-year-old building remain, including the Tower Ballroom and Tower Circus.

The renovation is part of a £250 million regeneration project to return Blackpool to its former glory as a must-visit tourist destination.

According to the Telegraph, Blackpool Council is the 'centrepiece' of this bid to boost tourism the town back to the days before tourists were pulled away by cheap deals to sunnier climes.

They have been working with Merlin Entertainment on the project, whose CEO, Nick Varney, told the Daily Mail: 'This is a landmark day for Blackpool and the Blackpool Tower.

'While there is still more work to be done, the tower itself looks fantastic - and has been restored with a great deal of skill and care.'
