It might be hard to believe for sweaty commuters rushing through it to get to work, but St Pancras Station has been named one of the most romantic spots in the world - along with the likes of the Taj Mahal and Juliet's House in Verona, Italy.

In particular, it is The Meeting Place at St Pancras that was named by the Lonely Planet, which features a 27ft sculpture of a couple embracing, by British artist Paul Day.

The station is a Grade I-listed building that recently went through a huge £800 million renovation project that now sees it as a central hub for travel services to Europe via Eurostar.

Other sites included on the list are the heart-shaped coral outcrop on Australia's Great Barrier Reed aptly named Heart Reef, the Las Vegas Eiffel Tower (believe it or not), and the Alley of the Kiss in Guanajuato in Mexico.

The list of The World's Most Romantic Spots features in the new book 1000 Ultimate Sights, on sale 27 September.
