Las Vegas is set to build the world's tallest ferris wheel which will be more than 100ft higher than the London Eye.

The Las Vegas Roller will measure 550ft - nine feet higher than the Singapore Flyer (541ft) which current holds the record of being the world's highest wheel. The London Eye is 443ft.

The giant observation wheel already faces competition from the 500ft Las Vegas Super Wheel which is being built nearby.

Caesar's Entertainment, which runs the Caesar's Palace hotel and casino, is behind the giant wheel which will have 32 cabins each holding 40 people. Constructions is expected to being next month for an opening in 2013.

Caesar's chief executive, Gary Loveman, told the Telegraph that the wheel would be the centre-piece for people are "looking to do the next thing".

Super Wheel developer Howard Bullock maintained that his wheel would still be a big draw. "Our project offers views straight up the Strip, the other project is behind hotels," he said.
