Teenager quoted £17,000 to insure a £2,000 car

The first year's car insurance is always expensive, but a learner driver looking to insure his humble 1.0-litre Vauxhall Corsa has been quoted a massive £17,000 by an insurance company.

James Hayes, an A-level student who turns 17 next week, was searching for a quote for a fully comprehensive policy in his own name for the car he had saved up to buy.
