Mclaren chairman sets out his 'vision for Britain'

Updated

The head of Mclaren has chastised successive British governments for the decline of the nation's manufacturing economy in a speech given at the Houses of Parliament this week.

Ron Dennis, who stepped down as Mclaren's team principal to launch the supercar arm of the company, told an automotive industry reception that the recent debate over the need to reinvigorate the country's manufacturing base was '20 years overdue'.

Mclaren's supremo professed that while he was encouraged by the new Government's attitude to research and development, it hadn't gone far enough. With that in mind, Dennis laid out a four-point plan to return the UK to the forefront of global engineering.
