Video: Hyundai's 775bhp Pikes Peak monster

Ask the average man on the street what they think of Hyundai, and most will mumble about scrappage, warranties and affordable superminis. All of this is true of course, but there is another side to the South Korean brand.

In America, the company has taken to competing in the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a gruelling 12 mile race to the clouds over gravel and tarmac which climbs nearly 1500 metres over a 156 turn course.

Last year Rhys Millen took a Hyundai Genesis coupe to a class record, but this year his Red Bull sponsored team have built a bespoke racer from the ground up to try and beat the current world record in the unlimited class. At the heart of the new car is a V6 engine from their Korean sponsor which has been modified to produce around 775bhp. The results are dramatic.
