Drink-driving offences fall, campaigners not happy

Updated

Figures released by the Association of Chief Police Officers reveal that the number of people caught drink-driving over the Christmas holidays fell by 16 per cent.

Despite testing some 223,423 drivers – a 21 per cent rise on last year – the number of people arrested after failing the roadside breath tests was just 7,638.

Although this figure only equates to three per cent of the total tested, some campaigners insist that a review of drink-drive laws can't come soon enough.
