Harriet Harman hit with careless-driving fine

Updated

Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman has been fined £350 for driving without due care and attention following a parking incident in London in July last year.

As well as the fine, Harman was ordered to pay £70 costs plus a £15 victim surcharge and given three penalty points on her licence.

Harman was witnessed reversing at low speed into a stationary car while parking in Camberwell in south east London. No damage was caused, but Harman was punished for not leaving her details at the scene.

The MP for Camberwell and Peckham didn't attend the hearing, but pleaded guilty to the charge. The court heard that she already has six penalty points on her licence, which has now increased to nine. Three more points will see her faced with a driving ban.
