Firstly, the more obvious ones. YouTube has a dedicated mobile site at m.youtube.com or you can download the application to your phone and manage your account while also getting some advanced video options. It works with Windows Mobile or Nokia S60 users.

Google Maps have a mobile application that is available on several different types of phone and if your phone also has GPS capabilities you can get traffic updates.

If you love to tweet but hate paying for updates and friend updates that arrive via text then you can download TinyTwitter which works on any Java enabled phone and any Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphone.

Photoshop also has an app. You can use it to upload and store photos online for up to 2GB of free storage. You can also view photos and albums on your phone and share photos too.

If you use Windows Mobile, an application called Palringo is handy for connecting to different messaging services. You can use Yahoo, Jabber, MSN, AIM, Google Talk, ICQ and Gadu-Gadu through this application.

eReader lets you read eBooks on your phone and even remembers what page you were on so no more bookmarks needed. Although you will have to pay about £5 for the books.

Gas.app finds the nearest and cheapest petrol station based on a postcode and delivers the results on a Google Map. This one is an iPhone application.

And finally, this one isn't free but it's pretty awesome: Guitar Hero III. A great game for your mobile and you can download new tracks every month!

Are you a phone app fan? Can you add any more cool apps to the list? Or maybe you think they're all unnecessary and you prefer a phone that's just a phone? Either way, leave a comment and tell us what you think.
