The manufacturers of the WaterCar are convinced they have developed the fastest amphibious vehicle in the world. The hand-built Python has a top speed of 62mph (100 km/h) on water. The 1960s Amphicar may have little more than cult status nowadays, but when you compare the vital statistics of the WaterCar Python, you see that considerable technical progress has been made in the intervening decades to transform a goldfish into a shark. In addition to its impressive water-borne speed, the Corvette engine takes only 4.5 seconds to accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 62mph on land and delivers a top speed of 100mph. Tremendous fun that comes at a colossal price: you'll need at least 200,000 US dollars in your lifejacket if you want to own one. But at least it will be exclusively purpose-built.
