Updated

New TV series start to hit our screens around this time of year such as Peep Show, Desperate Housewives, Heroes and Merlin. Are you a cult TV fan? These days there are many ways you can catch up with your favourite programmes. You can buy the DVD collections, for more recent programmes you can watch them online, but you can't beat watching the latest episode as it's premiered on TV - so that no one can tell you any spoilers beforehand. Check out some of the most popular cult TV searches on AOL.

But what about the series that have ended? Judging by the top searches for cult TV shows, many people enjoy watching their old favourites again and again. Despite it first airing 30 years ago, Fawlty Towers is still as hilarious today as it was back then. Red Dwarf was such a popular show that it was brought back to life 10 years after its supposed final episode. Although, many of the show's more ardent fans didn't appreciate the newer episodes.

For fans of the recent Doctor Who series, you may be keen to get to know the older Doctors too. There've been 11 Doctors altogether so no doubt there are one or two episodes you might have missed! Likewise, The Simpsons have been going strong for 21 series - it's the longest running American sitcom, and while you may not want to fork out for the entire DVD collection, you'll surely have a favourite episode or a series you haven't seen yet.

Perhaps you're a dedicated Trekkie (or is it Trekker?), or do you prefer to watch Rodders and Del Boy in 'Only Fools and Horses'? Do you laugh when Blackadder Goes Forth, or hide behind the sofa when Grisham, Horatio and Mac Taylor discover grisly murder scenes, or do you like nothing better than to curl up on the sofa and watch 'The One Where Ross Finds Out'?
