Today is the first day of the Royal Ascot race meeting. It lasts five days and is the most prestigious and posh of all the racing events in Britain. It's the racing equivalent of the World Cup and over 300,000 people attend every year almost as much to see the fantastic fashions and the rich and famous as to witness the races.

Tickets are still available if you want to go yourself, but be warned that most people dress formally, even if they are not entering the Royal Enclosure where a strict dress code is enforced. If you do decide to attend, be careful when having a flutter!

Racing at Ascot can be a fun day out: there are lots of lovely restaurants to eat at, or you can bring a picnic, you can enjoy the thrills and excitement of the racetrack, see members of the royal family or even the Queen and you might even win a few bob if you back the right horse!
